Copmanthorpe FC
Ability Counts Team
Copmanthorpe rounded off an excellent season with a 10-7 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough without Steven Brown who was again away on England duty in Holland.
A very competitive first quarter saw Copmanthorpe score first from an excellent Crag Blenkinsop through ball to demon striker Joe Hadfield, only for Sheffield to reply quickly with a deflected goal at near post. The Sheffield Keeper (who is their best out field player) deserves some credit for some excellent saves close to the break.
In the second quarter Sheffield changed keepers to allow their best player to play out and Copmanthorpe took advantage with two stunning shots one each from Craig and Richard Fenwick an OG and another from Joe made it 6-2 at half time. The third quarter was the most competitive both teams defended manfully Robins close range shot hit the bar and Michael had another short range shot saved by the keeper 1-1 for the quarter another goal from Joe and an intercept from Pete’s goal kick by a quick thinking striker left it 7-3 overall.
In the final quarter both teams tired, goals a plenty Copmanthorpe maintained the 3 goal advantage, 2 more for Joe (5 in all) made it 10 – 7
Copmanthorpe first season at this level has been a great success all the players have had a game with some lower ability friendlys played after the main fixture. Steven Brown selected to train with the CP England squad and then living the dream called up to play in 2 international friendly tournaments, fingers crossed next stop Nov the world cup in Rio.
