York College A 4 v Copmanthorpe A 0

After a great start to the season this game was always going to be a
tough test, against one of the teams of last season and the winners of
our annual Carnival tournament. The team started as last week with a two
man defence of Joe and Matthew, a three man midfield of Cal, Cameron and
Oliver with Josh up front, Johnathan in goal and Daniel and Callum as
subs. The team held their own for nearly ten minutes and could have gone
in front with some good crosses from the right wing but once behind
struggled to get back into the game. Johnathan made some great saves,
particular the full length diving save in the second half, and with a
strong second game performance came away with the man of the match. We
will hopefully get a chance of a re-match later in the season!

York Coillege B 2 v Copmanthorpe B 2

Another super performance from the B team with a very credible draw away
from home. The team battled really well not allowing the College to have
time on the ball. The midfield duo of Philip and Charlie were awesome,
especially Charlie who was everywhere. However we went 1 nil down
despite some solid defending. Not long after we showed our resilience
and Philip broke free and smashed a low shot into the corner of the net.
1 - 1 at half time. The team continued to press and Harry and Sam G were
stopping all their attacks. Then came the second, their keeper spilt one
of our shots and Will was on hand to bury the rebound. We continued to
look for a third but were undone by a late York College goal. Marcus had
another strong game in goal. Sam H, Leo and Bradley worked hard up front
holding the ball up and keeping the midfield in play.

Copmanthorpe U 14´s V Brooklyn U 14´s FA Cup 1st round 29-9-07

New kit inspires win!

Copmanthorpe U 14´s travelled to Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon for a tricky FA Cup tie away to newly promoted Brooklyn , played up at Rillington in the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds , on some would say a bobbly pitch , which had had much attention from the local rabbits!

A strong squad lined up in their new club strip complete with Sponsors Logo “IMC Toys” , this new look inspired a bright start for Cop with good work in Midfield coming down the right hand side & some good early balls through from Samuel Fox ( Foxy) creating early chances. The best of which came to Oliver Marriot (Mazza ) who received a good ball from midfield & then used his pace to beat the defender & put himself through with his shot just drifting over the bar! Cop piled on the pressure & achieved several corners; but with lots of possession Cop could not convert to early goals.

Squad rotation & the use of the role on role off subs, saw changes throughout the first half keeping the system fresh & trying players in new positions. Grant Urquhart ( Dougie ) fitted in well on the left hand side of midfield & created some opportunities for Ollie & Mikey up front. As Brooklyn tried to push ahead in the first half battling displays by Harry Gregory ( Hazza) & Leo Knighton in full back roles thwarted any ideas Brooklyn had of pushing down the flanks , solid fighting performances from both was great to see & an aggressive streak in both set the tone. Changes up front saw Adam Standridge ( Stanny) partner Ollie up front ,& quickly Stanny made his mark with an early shot on goal down the left hand side.

Half Time 0-0

With Cop the better team in the first half & Sam Nightingale in goal hardly troubled , Cop had to make the second half count . Danny Woodhall & Tom Horsman in central midfield positions battled hard throughout trying to make the breaks , looking to feed the strikers & a few half chances were created. As Brooklyn looked for the opener Calum Ferguson & Jamie Warnock marshalled the defence & as ever Calum was unbeatable. On the one occasion that Brooklyn went through Sam in Goal rushed out well to clear any danger. Again the use of the rolling subs saw a few changes, with Ryan Dhesi coming on front for Mazza & Ryan nearly putting Stanny through only to be blocked out. The re introduction of Nick May on the left created opportunities as he weaved his way around on the left flank , to coincide with this Foxy pushed hard on the right & a goal looked like it would not be far away.

After some good work down the right Harry Hazza Gregory, played a great ball down the right , that was picked up by Ollie Mazza Marriot who streaked down the wing to play the ball across , unfortunately no Cop player could get on the end of it. Moments later Tom Horsman battled well to win the ball rounded his man and struck a superb shot form 30 yards out , it looked like it was top corner bound until a fantastic save from the home keeper tipped it around the post for a corner.

After much pressure from Cop , Nick May was put through , using his pace & skill turned his man & drilled the ball past the Goalie into the back of the net , great solo goal 1-0 to Cop. In the closing minutes Foxy did very well to beat two men on the right & was unlucky his shot just went wide of the post. Overall a deserved win for Cop & could have easily been 4 or 5 nil.
